I learned, after booking, that there is and old and a new Panzano. We had, luckily, booked a room at Casa Volpini in old Panzano. Walkable, beautiful and full of wonderful restaurants, my one recommendation is to make reservations in advance. We begged our way into dinner at Dario Cecchini's amazing beef extravaganza, but we might have gone a bit hungry had we been unsuccessful.

Not too tourist damaged, and still a great location to get around, and lots of options for great dinners and entertainment without having to take the car (so you can have as much wine as you like). Dario's restaurant is very special and quite unique.

Everything was great apart from the appalling woman at Le Fonti winery who, when we asked to exchange a bottle of wine for olive oil, proceeded to rant and shout at us about bad manners and declared she ‘simply did not feel like doing it’ - we had spent £150 on wine the previous day but due to luggage restrictions couldn’t take any more bottles - and when we tried to explain, the screeching just increased (in front of other guests) so we left (followed by the still shouting woman), thoroughly bemused by the absurdity of her reaction and behaviour.
To top it off we opened the wine when we got home and it was not the same as what we had tasted - instead it was green, bitter and heavy on the tannins, almost a different wine altogether.
I hasten to add that everywhere else we went to in Panzano and Tuscany, and we traveled all over, we are were treated with the utmost courtesy and kindness. And the food and wine were fantastic!!!!

Panzano in Chianti is a quiet village between Greve in Chianti and Castellina in Chianti, along the road linking Fierenze and Siena. In Panzano you can admire one the the most important Romanesque churches of the whole Chianti region: the Pieve of St Leolino.
Panzano has probable Roman origins but expanded later on. It was a Firidolfi's seigniory and the most populated center of the Val di Greve's League for centuries. It used to be one of the most fortified villafes around, you can still admire indeed the ruins of the castle, perhaps built for want of the Ricasoli Firidolfi family. The semi-rectangular city walls are almost totally intact, even undergoing partial demolitions, like in correspondence of the Church of St Maria Assunta. By the way this church, annexed to the castle, was rebuilt in the XIV century over the ruins of an older church.
Inside the Church is a small Virgin with Infant Jesus (XIV century) attributed to Botticino; the right hand of the nave preserves a beautiful "Annunciazione" attributable to Michele di Ridolfo del Ghirlandaio.
Of the two survived corner turrets, one is the current bell-tower while the south-eastern one still shows the corbels supporting the parapet. Some other edifices well keep the original medieval structures, like Casa Torre, rising in front of the quarterdeck, and someone else overlooking the only street inside the walls.

Panzano is a great little town.
Panzano is a great little town. It is great because locals live there all year round and it is not heavily dominated by tourists. Shops and restaurants are very authentic to the town and you can experience a nice authentic Italian village stay. Panzano is known for the restaurant Dario, but it offers more than that. The whole village work for each other, you see each other products in each other’s shops which shows how warm and self sufficient the place is.
We wanted to stay in the heart of Panzano were going to Dario’s restaurant for dinner. This 2 bedroom one bathroom exceeded our expectations. Nicoletta was the host and we had a lively tart provided for breakfast along with coffee in their nice kitchen and outside patio. They did not have AC so that was a bit tough however there are many windows that created a decent breeze. If you are going to Dario’s for dinner this location is absolutely perfect next door!!
After 3 weeks in Italy, Panzano was the perfect place to enjoy our last 6 days before heading home.
The cottage is right at the edge of the historic center of town. A short walk to the piazza with excellent ristorantes and stores.
Fantastic views from the bedroom window and the front door. A great location for day trips as well.
Friendly and helpful hosts, Rosalba and Roberto, were great to deal with.
A truly beautiful hotel with loads of character and very comfortable in a great location near the village of Panzano. Fabulous views from both the room and outside sitting areas. Lara the host was exceptional and made us feel very welcome and served the most wonderful breakfasts! Thank you! We would definitely love to return.
Apartment was in an old house in the historical heart of Panzano, on the top of the hill with great views of the valley Conca d'Oro. There was a very good restaurant close by. The owner, Alessandro and his wife Lucia made all effort to make us feel happy there. And we did, we reálný enjoyed our stay at Panzano.
It was like staying with a family that really cared about us. Everyone was so kind and helpful. They made dinner reservations for us, fed us breakfast and the place was charming. From the bottle of wine in our room to the lovely swimming pool it was a fantastic experience in Chianti!
Very nice location and pleasant villa with rooms. ideal for a few days in Chianti. Classic Italian home-made breakfeast is a big attraction! Very convenient secure parking for my Motorcycle and there are plenty of car parking spots as well just outside the villa.
Very nice place, very welcoming host and amazing breakfast. Super good value for money. We came to Panzano to visit Dario Defchini’s restaurant and this was the perfect place to stay. I especially have to point out the rich breakfast prepared by a lovely lady.
Beautiful, up-to-date hotel with nice views, facilities, pool and very important … good bed and very good breakfast! Fresh juice included! In these weird covid times, they still make a good effort to make the breakfast special.
Christine was a fantastic host! Recommending and setting up great winery and dinner experiences to go along with the hotel experience itself. Our only regret was not staying longer. We can’t wait to come back!
very nice agroturismo near Panzano with nice views, pool and comfortable apartment. Apartment is large with balcony equipped kitchen, all nice and clean, very good value. Friendly stuff - we were satisfied.
We were warmly greeted by the owner. Beautiful apartment which is very tastfully renovated. Kitchen is very well equipped. Lovely outside space and nice view. Good location to visit nearby towns.
Host is awesome - kind, helpful and speaks English. Neighborhood is amazing - winery, church and view on the fields of Chianti. Building itself is old, built from stone and has "soul".
Historical villa beautifully furnished immersed in the Chianti hills. Perfect to wind down. Staff is truly amazing and very kind! Great breakfast (3 menu options to choose from)
Mario and the staff were very nice and welcoming. super disposal with suggestions and ready to help.
